Drag Racing The tires are warmed up and the car lurches forward. There's complete silence beneath the yellow glow of the stage lights. The tree flips green and the rubber ignites with complete and instant torque.

Techno geeks don't seem to miss the roar of the launch that grease monkeys live for because the numbers don't lie. Street legal electric cars are fast. How fast? Check out some video of one man's home built machine.

Still in its infancy over a decade ago, this sport has been a big smash recently in the racing scene. Even if it isn't your thing, it's certainly worth a curious look, and the National Electric Drag Racing Association has plenty to look at.
