Replica Courses: Play Augusta (Almost) |
|
|
Golfers are obsessed with the world's great courses. Is there any one of us with a bucket list that doesn't include the Old Course and Augusta National? Yet, in these recessionary times, let's face it, the bucket list is on hold for many.
Well, how about playing a replica course? These layouts offer holes inspired by the greatest courses and the most heralded architects in the game.
Old Course lovers should head to the Grand Cypress Resort in Orlando, Florida, where the New Course features replicas of St. Andrews' stone bridges and walls, a snaking burn, a starter's hut overlooking the first tee, seven double greens, five-foot flag pins, deep pot bunkers with ladders and simple white fences.
The International World Tour Golf Links, a 27-hole complex, is a must for Augusta National admirers, with holes inspired by Augusta's 11th, 12th, 13th and 16th as well as more than 2,000 azaleas planted around the four holes.
Other noteworthy replicas include the Donald Ross Memorial at Boyne Highlands Resort in Harbor Springs, Michigan; Tour 18 in Houston, Texas; and Royal Links Golf Club in Las Vegas.
