Devil's in the Details With These Irons |
|
|
Callaway Golf Company appears to be reaching into its almost forgotten Ben Hogan bag with the Diablo Edge and Diablo Forged irons.
The Edge product line, if you remember, helped propel the Ben Hogan Co. to major equipment status in the 1990s, and the Diablo Edge bears a resemblance to those popular clubs. Ditto for the Diablo Forged irons, but the Diablo Edge irons could be a big winner for Callaway in 2010. The reason: The clubs are easy to hit for average players, and the suggested retail price is $599. This means the Diablo Edge could be on shelves for as little as $499.
Another selling factor is that the Diablo Edge irons are available in combo sets (see R&D video) that feature six irons and two Diablo Edge Hybrids. The combo set, with two graphite-shafted hybrids and six steel-shafted irons, has an SRP of $699. The combo set, with two graphite-shafted hybrids and six graphite-shafted irons, has an SRP of $799.
The Diablo Forged irons, meanwhile, carry an SRP of $999 for steel-shafted sets and $1199 for graphite-shafted sets.
