Welcome Back to 1864

1864
Take a step back nearly 150 years to the South during the Civil War era, enjoy an authentic period dinner, and then eavesdrop on a debate between roiling families—and the nation itself. After 20-plus years as a nationally touring stand-up comedian, actor Steve Gipson—a Civil War history student since childhood—and his wife Allison have settled into their long-running roles as a Union veteran and a Confederate-sympathizing sister who meet by chance during the war and discover many truths about each other through both comedy and tenderness. The story is based on hundreds of diary and memoir entries Gilpin has researched.

The pre-show dinner features authentic dishes from the recipes of Varina Davis, wife of CSA President Jefferson Davis, served by costumed staff working in the Old Buttonwillow Church the Gipsons have refashioned into a year-round dinner theater in Whitwell, Tenn., some 23 miles northwest of Chattanooga.

Step Back to the Civil War era and listen in.
