One Family's Story Offers Lessons for Us All

The Journey Takers
Most of us can trace at least one branch of our family back to another country. Yet most of us have not set out to document that journey from the homeland to the New World.

Genealogist Leslie Abrecht Huber has done just that. Using both documentary research and personal visits to their home countries, she traces her ancestors' journey from their familial origins in Germany, Sweden, and England to America. The Journey Takers tells a story many of us share, of courageous, dangerous — and sometimes naïve — chance-taking, to be part of a grand new beginning. Literally following in her ancestors' footsteps, Huber finds herself on a different journey than the one upon which she thought she'd embarked, and along the way uncovers the ironic personal consequences of the life-changing decisions of others.

Embark on a journey of family discovery.
