Plan the Perfect Path |
|
|
Anyone can have a plain old sidewalk, but a beautiful pathway will give your home and garden an elegant, distinctive look. Follow our steps to create more than just a functional walkway:
Complement your home.
Make sure your path relates to the style of your house. Symmetrical architecture, for example, calls out for a straight, formal walkway—a whimsical, wiggly path would look out of place.
Fit the space.
A 6-foot-wide walkway looks short and stubby if it's only 10 feet long and ends at the small front porch of a cozy cottage. A better fit is a path that is as wide as the steps up to the front porch. To make a path appear longer, play with perspective: Begin the path wider, narrowing it slightly as it approaches the end.
