Vote for America's Favorite Flower |
|
|
American Idol, bah. How often do you get to vote on a favorite flower for an entire country? Every year, actually—and this year it started May 1.
For those of us who love plants as much as TV, the hottest contest right now is the American Garden Award. Four contestants, one winner. Who will take it all?
Last year's winner, Rudbeckia 'TigerEye Gold', is pictured above. This year, the race is on for Prairie Splendor coneflower, 'Purple Flash' ornamental pepper, Denver Daisy rudbeckia, and 'Profusion Knee-High Red' zinnia.
Check out pictures of all four. Then vote online, by texting, on Facebook, or by sending an old-fashioned postcard found at participating public gardens across the country. Voting ends August 31.
