Foot-long Hot Dogs, Foot-long Subs... |

Foot-long plastic worms?
Absolutely. Though most would never fess up, the guys who bring the eye-poppers to Tuesday night weigh-ins regularly rig ridiculously oversized plastics for after-dark fishing. You feel like you're stretching reality when you Texas rig a 12-inch El Salto Grande Worm, but every apprehension goes away with the first tell-tale thump.
When the guides on Mexico's famous El Salto lake say "Grande," they are talking about seriously big largemouths, but with a Grande Worm rigged up, you don't have to go south of the border to catch a bass worth boasting about. Big fish look for big meals on September nights.
Use strong braid and a rod with plenty of backbone, and focus on brush. When a fish does bite, set the hook hard and be ready. Monster worms draw fewer bites, but the fish that do hit tend to be the kind that really count.
