Rare Video: Huge Paddlefish Feeding |
 |
|
You know that paddlefish eat by filtering out zooplankton from the water, but have you ever seen them do it? Well, you have now.
The "North American Fisherman-TV" crew captured this underwater footage that makes you stop and say, "Wow, that's a cool fish." As fascinating as these fish are, most folks don't know a ton about them, even though they've been around for at least the last 35 million years (give or take a few).
Did you know some people say the biggest American paddlefish ever weighed 206 pounds? Postcards from the 1960s show photos of the Lake Cumberland giant. Multiple Chinese paddlefish have for sure tipped the scales at more than 660 pounds, and legends abound about fish up to 23 feet long (Note: There are also legends about Bigfoot).
Now, there's another freakishly huge species you're familiar with: the alligator gar. While you've seen tons of grip-and-grin photos of guys who caught absolute monsters, you probably haven't seen much — if any — underwater footage of gar, either. So here you go.
