Modern braided line has changed the way we fish, but a new braid that debuted just last week at fishing's biggest annual trade show (ICAST) looks like it will lead to yet another revolution. And you need to know about it.
That's because Sufix 832 has eight "carriers" (an insider's term for the individual fibers that make up the line), compared to the mere four that make up most braids on the market. What's more, those eight strands are woven together an industry-leading 32 times per inch; some other braids feature as few as 17 weaves per inch.
More fibers and more weaves mean the line's smoother, rounder and more manageable.
The really cool aspect of 832 is that in addition to its seven Dyneema carriers, the line has a single Gore (think Gore-Tex rainwear) Performance Fiber woven into the mix. This makes the line silky slick and hydrophobic, which increases abrasion resistance and casting distance.
Just how abrasion resistant are we talking? Field testers dragged the line across a 90-degree steel corner 1,000 times. Afterward, the break strength was 95 percent of its original muscle — the competition's braid registered just 40 percent after running the same gauntlet.
How can you not love that?
