Every Angler Should Take This To Heart |
It's no accident—pun intended—that National Safe Boating Week occurs just before Memorial Day weekend when lakes, reservoirs and rivers will be awash in anglers, pleasure boaters, jet skiers and water skiers.
Now's the time when you get slammed with reminders about "wearing your life jacket." Yeah, it's a lot like your mom's old nag about "putting on a cap," but the sobering truth is that 80 percent of boating deaths are due to drowning, and 90 percent of the victims were not wearing a PFD. That's all the proof you should need to know that it's the best thing you can do to make sure you get back to the launch ramp in the same shape you left it—no matter what type of craft you're in.
There's a lot more to responsible boating than just donning a PFD. Please take the time to observe Safe Boating Week as part of your Memorial Weekend preparations. |
