Did Elvis Catch World-Record Fish? |
|
|
This photo proves it: Elvis is the King of peacock bass. Elvis Fonseca, that is. He's the fishing guide (pictured) who's holding what looks to be the new world-record peacock bass.
The 37-inch behemoth weighed in at 28 pounds and change, unofficially making it the biggest freakin' peacock any man has ever caught (old record was 27 pounds, caught in Brazil in 1994). The fish you're looking at was recently caught by Iowa-resident Bill Gassmann on a tributary of Brazil's Rio Negro.
Elvis was Gassmann's guide, and spent most of the 12-minute battle yelling, "Grande! Grande!"
Gassmann was fishing with Hall-of-Famer Billy Chapman's famous Anglers Inn International; it was also an Anglers Inn client who caught the previous record back in '94. Gassman gave the record fish to Anglers Inn for display on the Captain Peacock, the outfit's 95-foot mother ship.
We don't know, but we're guessing the gesture prompted Elvis to respond, "Thank you, thank you very much."
Always dreamed of taking a trip like this? Find out what an adventure like Gassmann's looks, feels, and tastes like. |
