4-Stroke Burns 2-Stroke
Yamaha Video
Here's one you've got to see to believe. For all their obvious benefits—fuel efficient, quiet, smooth—4-stroke outboards have always been tagged as being heavy, slow and just not up to snuff when compared to 2-stroke performance.

As the video demonstrates, though, Yamaha's new VMax SHO (Super High Output) 250, 225 and 200 have blown that reputation away. In a showdown against comparably sized 2-strokes, the new 250 4-stroke accelerates faster and has a higher top end. Plus, it's as light, or lighter than, the oil drinkers.

For now, the SHO engines are being built for bass boats and flats rigs, but it's a good bet the guys running multi-species machines will get their version, too.

Find out where and when you can take a demo drive.
