It Smashes, Pulverizes, Destroys! |
What is it about the jackhammer that brings out our inner action hero? It smashes! It pulverizes! It destroys! But there's nothing "comic-bookish" about jackhammering in real life, so follow these safety steps next time you're bustin' 'crete:
- Wear safety gear, and face away from windows or glass to prevent breakage by flying debris.
- Wear steel-toe boots, and watch the position of your feet; jackhammers jump around!
- If it's a pneumatic jackhammer, make sure the hose connection is secure before starting the compressor; otherwise a dangerous "wild hose chase" may ensue.
- Before activating power, get a firm grip on the handle and hold the jackhammer in a vertical position.
- Power up in a firm, even manner. Avoid sudden starts and stops, and drive the bit straight down.
