A House Fire Is a Tough Teacher
House Fire House fires happen, and the risk increases in summer because of lightning, droughts and forest fires. Are you prepared for such a tragedy?

Take advice from Craig, a contributor to the HANDY Forum. In a thread that started as a reminder to keep records of your tools, Craig says:

"I had a house fire about four years ago. Had I been able to obtain files and pictures, it would have made it so much easier to prove to the insurance adjuster what each room looked like, what was in it, etc. We argued whether or not I had louvered doors in front of the washer/dryer and water heater. "Well sir, I don't see any indication of a door here." "Uh, dude? Maybe because that pile of ash and those chunks of charcoal are the door?" It went like that until I had photographic evidence."

Memo: Do a room-by-room photographic inventory of your home.
